The alien paradox

April 12, 2009 · 1 Comment

There is so much talk about aliens and SETI on TV and the net and so many intelligent souls looking for aliens and stuff.

Alien stuff is certainly interesting. “Intelligence” in a planet is more interesting. However, I think this is just a human thing for being social and wanting to be in a group – like the group of “intelligent life forms” (me and my intelligent friends). The same reason why Social Media is something these days.

If you are really too much into MIB and wish it was true, I could be from Jupiter!

The good word

April 10, 2009 · 1 Comment

We see a lot of quizzes and pick my five stuff at Facebook these days

facebook-status

A voice in my head tells me, however advanced our technology gets, people still like someone (something) to tell them good things (which may not always be true) all the time.

The voice also says that these people want the good words to spread also. This formula has survived the test of millenniums.

Thank “God” for all the religions!

“Multi – role” guy

April 7, 2009 · 1 Comment

I was having a conversation with an old school Fauji and suddenly this idea popped into my brain.

Any person in the online medium calls himself a word – marketeer, developer, designer, search engine optimizer etc. based on how they spend their time at their agencies / startups. And a lot of pro startup blogs and people keep throwing this idea of sporting different “hats” – the idea is to be a master of few and a jack of lot of trades. So, it would be better to call a true blue startup dude in a “multi-role” way.

parts

You could be a 50% marketeer, 20% developer and a 30% designer – all in one. Meaning at a particular point in time, you are best at marketing (SEM, SEO, Biz Dev, Client Servicing etc.), not so good at design and yet attempt at making some and pull up your sleeves and open up the code and fuck around with the syntax – could range from changing your Div padding to hierarchy in C++.

“Overqualified” web structure – worth a look

April 4, 2009 · Leave a Comment

A lot of Web comic writers and other bloggers dream of writing books one day and most have a couple of books running in the market. How do they market it though?

A Softer World has come out with a really powerful tool for that. They have a section called “Overqualified“. Here, they write letters to blue chip firms telling them precisely why they suck!

This is the wireframe of how they present each letter. I think this is one of the coolest wireframes I have seen. (And Amzon book link is called “The book” and About section is called “Joey”)

After reading a few articles you would feel like owning the book (if you are an American that is) and might Amazon it and buy it too. Very neat! Thumbs up

Sarcasm and pets

April 4, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I like sarcasm and I like dogs. So I spread the word about not binding them to some cramped human environs. Saw this really cool picture on softer world. I think this site got one of the most sarcastic souls of our times and highly involved on the internet.

Mad trip on “If I were the prime minister”

April 3, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I was tripping on this BBC article. It says “If I were the Prime Minister…”

This article consists of a few interviews. People – different places, different backgrounds, different situations all constituting a major trip. It is ultra difficult to speak for anything other than what constitutes me – holy idea of selfishness. Do check that article.

Here are a few snapshots –

“Everywhere you go, officials ask you for bribes. I will work to weed out corruption.”

“If I become the prime minister, my first priority will be to ensure that all the farmers in this country get a fair price for their produce, whether it’s rice, wheat, sugarcane or some other crop.”

“Farmers make up more than half of our country, so it’s important to focus on their needs instead of only taking care of people who live in the cities.”

“I would want to solve all of our electricity problems. Even where I live we have long power cuts in the day of about six to seven hours.”

“As prime minister, I’d probably look at ways of separating religion from politics.”

“Educating people about health is important. If people can take care of themselves, our problems are reduced.”

“If I become the prime minister of India, I will make sure that all the poor people like me can have small permanent shops so that they can earn a living. Poor in this country have no peace, no hope.”

“monitor my ministers and other members and score them at the end of every week or month. This division would also educate the ministers on where they went wrong and where they could improve.”

“If I were to become the prime minister, I would give shops to all the poor. I will tell the police not to harass them.”

“I would also promote e-governance at all levels to introduce transparency so corruption is removed and the government comes closer the people.”

Mad trip. All the learned ones wants more education and the struggling ones need more shops. The healthcare geeks need more health and the farmers need more money. Its a crazy ass job – being a prime minister. I have decided I would think five times before taking up power.

For more trip do visit LordsOfOdds Election site . These guys have made something where you could design your own cabinet portfolio. Recommended.

Auto complete – a big deal

April 3, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Auto complete is a major big deal.

A lot of websites have given us the option to auto-complete queries, that we take it for granted. Now Gmail has come out with an auto-complete option and is blasting major websites like this about this option.

auto-complete

In “eye for detail” parameters for a website, auto-complete should have a very high importance IMO. People don’t like to type much and they are always short of time. Thank you Twitter!

This makes the need for search bar as a taken. What could be next?
