I see predictions

December 19, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Lots of people looking at 2010.
That translates to a lot of predictions.

Content, No shout please talk, Reduce Spam, Go Mobile, Increase Video, Be transparent!

Looks more like Moral Science Lessons from school rather than marketing tips – Maybe Moral Science was important after all.

Some good reads

December 18, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I have got back to working, put Weltan Butterfly on a temporary hold (sigh! I flunked the test!) and it sure is not bad.

Better, got in touch with some intense blogs. Highly recommend these ones –

1. Fear No Project – Project Management Blog

This is a well written blog on various angles of daily project management troubles. A must read if you are into IT and Web Projects

2. Looks Like Good Design

Do you have the eyes for things that look awesome? Do you appreciate new age art? Never miss this one! Ranging from digital illustrations to visting card designs to amazing CD covers, this site sure can pop!

3. Graph Jam

Pie Charts, Line Charts and all those things from your 8th standard Math class explaining music and pop culture. From the makers of LOL Cats!

4. Flickr – Most Interesting Photos feed

Flickr as is does not have an RSS feed. But catch all the killer snaps of the day here. Every day you get to access 500 most interesting photos for the day. IMO, present day art kicks ass.

The coke pop

December 16, 2009 · 2 Comments

TV ads get more ‘pop’ these days.

The new coke ad called “Strange Love” has been doing quite a lot of rounds on TV these days. It shows a teenaged boy and girl flirting in a library.

There seems to be a huge undercurrent meaning in this ad though. The coke bottle on the boys hand and the glass with ice on the girl’s hand could be a very subtle way of showing their respective genital areas. The flow of coke from the boy’s hand to the girl’s hand could be a pointer to under age sex.

And all this happens in mainstream media targetting teen and youth. I say this is a very smart move.

And thanks to John Pathrose (www.twitter.com/johnpathrose) for suggesting the idea behind the ad.

On CIOs and Social Media Ban

October 9, 2009 · Leave a Comment

A lot of companies (read CIOs) ban the use of Social Media sites as a part of their Internet policy.

Few factors such as fear of negative reputation, employee productivity, wastage of time etc. forces such moves. Check out this study on social media behaviour in companies for deeper insight.

Good to know that almost 10% of the companies are open to Twitter, Facebook and YouTube usages inside firms. High time companies redefine their “cultures” of Freedom and Respect!

Viral from C2W – fail to impress

October 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Just stumbled on a new ‘viral’ from contest to win. They call it the ShineShah aimed at promoting retirement plans from IDBI.

Do check it here (if you really want to that is). Very losely connected script and making fun of a cult character from the past leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Guess its time we see something fresh!

But the fact that I clicked on an ad from facebook to reach this viral should be good from a numbers point of view. I am not convinced about IDBI though.

What is keeping my ‘net-head’ running

September 27, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Mighty trip at home without the use of internet was good. But, the ‘net-head’ in me is rearing its head back again.

Social Media – can’t stop tripping on the possibilities. Squidoo has come up with some brands which has taken this medium very seriously . Thinking of ideas by which brands around us can gain in a major way by use of good old Youtube, Flickr, Facebook, Tweets and such.

The really awesome idea of user generated stuff going has proven to be as cool as Karl Marx’s theories (sorry, it doesn’t really work), but activating curiosities and ‘hey this is nice’ comments from them sure can help in brand recalls (hope so, maybe, keep fingers crossed).

Reminding myself again and again – content is king! Running around and bumping into content providers; read movie makers, photographers, artists, cool random people, you and me!

If you were guessing Weltan Butterfly got trapped in a spider…….

Website? No! Facebook group? Yes!

June 23, 2009 · 1 Comment

I decided to do some marketing along with the bootstrapping of Weltan Butterfly. The idea is to keep a glamour factor running along – its costs nothing to be cool!

I had one dude who asked me “Website?”
Currently deciding to keep the website idea away and do my stuff on this Facebook Group instead.

Till then, keep the cool flowing…..

When do you matter

June 16, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Seth Godin has come up with a list of things which says when you matter…

When you love the work you do and the people you do it with, you matter.
When you are so gracious and generous and aware that you think of other people before yourself, you matter.
When you leave the world a better place than you found it, you matter.
When you continue to raise the bar on what you do and how you do it, you matter.
When you teach and forgive and teach more before you rush to judge and demean, you matter.
When you touch the people in your life through your actions (and your words), you matter.
When kids grow up wanting to be you, you matter.
When you see the world as it is, but insist on making it more like it could be, you matter.
When you inspire a Nobel prize winner or a slum dweller, you matter.
When the room brightens when you walk in, you matter.
And when the legacy you leave behind lasts for hours, days or a lifetime, you matter.

Totally awesome! I am touched. I am convinced. Hail Seth!
