Why Kids can be much more evolved than us?

March 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

kid-kicks-grown-up-ass

I have heard people say kids can do stuff. A friend of mine (Appu – Apurva – ex Chutney) once actually showed me why kids can be a “major trip”. I have stopped ignoring kids since and try get their game.

  • Stop ignoring kids and the things they do. There is no “kiddie stuff”
  • So sad if you have grown up. You are missing all the fun
  • The energy levels of kids are unbeatable. Can you be on the run for 2 hours non stop with just a plastic junk
  • Ask a kid to frame a story. Can you make such a trip?
  • Ask a kid about crows, pigeons, lizards, dogs and such urban / suburban forms of fauna. You might figure out why these things are not extinct yet. Probably you might just land up with some “anti-extinction” plan for yourself
  • Kids have more developed right brains and less developed left brains. How much I wish for the same. Well we got computers and calculators for the intricate calculations.
  • If you can make a kid understand what you mean by Web Develpment, you probably know it well. And how do you know if the kid understood it? If you can understand what the kid means by web development and if that understanding is correct. Mere usage of words may not be helpful here. Try pictures, stories and such. Web Development can’t be more interesting than a Tom and Jerry show. Can it be?
  • If you think kids are innocent, you are dumb. Kids have no mercy and no limitations. They live constantly on the edge.
  • Try answering a kid when watching a movie. That can be more interesting than the movie itself.
  • Cartoons made for kids are much more engaging than the soap operas made for adults

If you have plans to make something more creative and stuff, listen to kids. Plus, if whatever you make is not creative (that includes Dal rice, a website, a piece of music, a presentation, a document, a spread sheet, a sexual act) its not worth it!

HR – the other side of the coin.

February 23, 2009 · 1 Comment

The previous post has left me with a good hard on for a while. Looks like junta liked it and a blogger friend of mine decided to do a guest post on his blog with the HR sucks article. Ego boost babes!

Well I have nothing against people who follow the good profession of Human Resources. That is a good place to be and your intentions are completely good. Except when you agree to be the Bitch to the Board of Directors. That sucks a little.

1. HR sure can take a lot of initiatives which they themselves are ready to follow.

2. Respect the power of internet and the new media. Internet is so mad cool. There is a lot of things that can be done. The pre-notion that Orkut and Facebook are the only two things employees are interested in is a misnomer. Its a matter of time when people get bored of them and start Googling. This time could range from 6 months to a year.

Start with these two things and see how different the place you work becomes.

On noise on the web

December 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

software-development

Messages like these would have sounded a lot more credible say fifteen years ago. Many might also think “duh” by seeing such things on Twitter.

1. The confidence of seeing the stuff you say in the same platform as experts and gurus is a major kick.
2. It serves to add more to your web brand – well quantity of your messages sure is a currency in making the “Brand 2.0″ – which is the brand “you” and blah blah

It adds to the noise and pushes down the quality of information on the web. This may not be as big a problem as poverty or Global warming / cooling / climate change; still it is a big problem.

News feed option on facebook – Please do go there!

October 31, 2008 · 1 Comment

Facebook users – you could “un screw up” facebook a little if you could follow this link below the news feeds on the Facebook homepage -

Clicking on the link would lead you to a page where you could customize the news feed. This is a simple interface which asks you what do you want to see more of / see less of.

The options would be

1. Events
2. Groups
3. Relationships
4. Notes
5. Photos
6. Status
7. Wall posts
8. Friends
9. Videos
10. Profiles

I have decided that I would like to see more notes, less photos, more status, less videos, less friends and of course a lot less relationships (That is a little too personal to publish – no?)

Also, the killer part is if you would like to see more of a few friends and less of few others – KILLER! I would love to avoid this chick who goes to all photos to say ‘Choo chweet” or guys who go to chick photos and say “Man that is cool”.

I guess this would improve my Facebook experience a lot. More or less like the Social interactions I have in the offline world. I choose what to listen to and what to ignore. Life is too short to keep in touch with all that is going around!

Killed it! (Seth Godin style)

August 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Seth Godin seems to get the basics right. Damn right – that too in a few words.

Below is a snap shot of what he thinks of advertising, branding, sales and marketing.

“If you don’t want spam in your inbox, never respond, never buy anything. Not even if it’s a good deal.

If you don’t like TV commercials featuring loud aggressive announcers, don’t buy what they’re selling. Ever.

If you don’t want people ringing your door asking for donations, don’t give, no matter what.

If you think politics is too nasty and not focused enough on creating value, then don’t donate to a candidate that’s nasty, even if you agree (and even better, call or write and tell them why).

If you don’t like bait and switch marketing, where promises don’t match the product, don’t buy it.

If you don’t like snarky, angry blogs, don’t read them.

If you deplore the lousy service at big chains or certain airlines, don’t shop there, even if it’s cheaper.

There’s a new asymmetry, with loud consumers able to connect and actually have an impact.

We’re all hypocrites, and we get what we pay for. The market is astonishingly quick at responding to what consumers do (and incredibly slow at reacting to what we say).”

All cheers to the great Seth
