Website? No! Facebook group? Yes!

June 23, 2009 · 1 Comment

I decided to do some marketing along with the bootstrapping of Weltan Butterfly. The idea is to keep a glamour factor running along – its costs nothing to be cool!

weltan butterfly promotion on Facebook

I had one dude who asked me “Website?”
Currently deciding to keep the website idea away and do my stuff on this Facebook Group instead.

Till then, keep the cool flowing…..

How to connect your society and the social media

June 8, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I have been tripping major on social experiments.

Ever since late 2007 when I moved into online advertising, people all around are going major gaga over ’social media’. The Facebook way of doing your thing, the iphone way of seeing your thing and the Twitter way of saying your thing. A big huge bunch of keywords and people revolving around it.

Somehow, this strikes an idea that social media is a mirror of the society around you. 300+ friends on facebook is a sign that 300 people trusts you and you are somehow or the other responsible for these 300 people with the little things you say and you do. Just like everyone else, one may find himself / herself (i know) in sticky situations once in a while. This is the time when you could use some help from your friends and then come clean.

1. Try creating a sticky situation – could be one that existed before and you have not really come out 100% clean. There are chances that you might find yourself back in the situation if not checked / controlled.

2. Make use of your friends in an offline way – I tried SMS. Its good, its easy and no use of vocal chords.

3. Come online and push it – Use Facebook messages, email, Twitter, personal blog (I use this one) etc. to clean yourself out.

I see results in terms of numbers on the internet. I also see results in the form of an easy, quiet, non-sticky mind.

Definite winner!

Trying out the social theories

June 4, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Been reading a lot of theories on how to handle Facebook and such social networking sites.

Now playing around Facebook just like how my friends drooled over monochrome screens and Multi User Dungeon (MUD) – a text based game. This would be 2003. I find Facebook is a lot of fun with the quizzes, funny updates and such.

Trying out some old school comment deal here. Created an event around the theme. Do check what happens here. Could turn out interesting!!

I am updating my Twitter stream with interesting tidbits. Do a Twitter Search for #FBX for details.

The good word

April 10, 2009 · 1 Comment

We see a lot of quizzes and pick my five stuff at Facebook these days

facebook-status

A voice in my head tells me, however advanced our technology gets, people still like someone (something) to tell them good things (which may not always be true) all the time.

The voice also says that these people want the good words to spread also. This formula has survived the test of millenniums.

Thank “God” for all the religions!

Valentine on Facebook

February 12, 2009 · Leave a Comment

valentine
Today is 12 of Feb – got two more days for the Most Extra Hyped Useless day of the year called the V-day. Ideally its a V day for me everyday! You dont wait for one particular day to do the thing – do you?

But “compare people” app on Facebook has come out with the shadiest of all applications called a V day special (and yes I clicked to see). It comes out with all your Female friends on FB and questions like “Who would you sleep with?” or “Who smells better?”

Well, I don’t want my girl friends to open Facebook and see shady comments like “Kiran thinks you dont smell good!” Forget Valentine – I ll lose this friend for ever! Thank you “Compare People”. Good imagination!

You can slap that bald guy on MTV

January 4, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Have you noticed a bald guy sitting with Nikhil Chinnappa at times? That guy is called Raghu Ram and he is a producer. That show called Roadies is this guy! Hell man! that was good. You are not ‘this guy’ with Nikhil Chinnappa.

So, the deal is following the shoe incident of Bush, MTV makes a show called “Slap Raghu”. Viral Marketing of Roadies. Games in Orkut and Facebook. Facebook connect and all that jazz.

I like Social Media. I would not like to be slapped by arbit people. Damn!

Facebook faces recession too!!!

December 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I have noticed myself becoming a Facebook critic in a way. Well, I do possess an account and log in on a daily basis. Still!

Was following the Social Media scene for some time now. “Lets get the crowd first. Money and Business Plans shall be rolled in later” principle did see quite a few me-too SNS fall on its face. Facebook looks like the next one. Sad but true.

Mark Zuckerberg – THE poster child for 25 minus wannapreneurs did see himself a bit above what was worth it.

facebook-valuation-chart

Oh, how the mighty have fallen! Facebook’s value has jumped dramatically with every investment, from $100 million in 2005, to $550 million in 2006, to $15 billion in 2007. The drop has been almost as sharp.

Right now, they stand at $1.3 billion.

Moral of the story: Stick to awesomeness. Open Source and access to all may sound juicy. Start bugging people with sub standard run by the night applications which later qualify as spam can hit you hard faster than you expect.

Frequency debate 2

December 15, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Was tripping on the idea of putting the same message more than once very close-by on websites here.

Found another one right here on Facebook.

Two invites plus option to connect to “People you might know”. Proving thrice the need to have more people sign up on Facebook.

Facebook emo blackmail

December 12, 2008 · 1 Comment

facebook-compare-emotional

“Compare people” app on facebook which compares people (apparantly) decided to do the above emotional blackmail on me. I think taunts such as above can be good enough for people to log on and see what happens.

P.S. I actaully did click on that link to see why “I am not a winner”. Too many ads, add me, allow this and not reaching a right place in 3 minutes of trial resulted in one lost user!
