Indie Music artists and neat bloggers – they have something in common.
Giving away stuff (amazing-kick-ass-really-cool-I-can’t-believe-it) kinda stuff for free on the web. Looking at revenue models and business development and such terms which has a very close connection to money does not apply to these really cool characters.

“Long tail” – that word can be used here in a lot of ways! Still, don’t they need money to make these creations or maybe they don’t or maybe they have saved enough for life or I can’t really get it!
OK! The indie artists can hold shows and make money for living that ways. At least some dudes might have listened to them or Last.fmed them. But still!

First hand experience of Rock and Roll. This man is Vijeth who writes at his blog, Karbage!
I played bass in third year of engineering. It was fun, playing the bass has all the advantages of being in a band, without the hassles. Why ? because nobody in the audience cares about the bass, nobody. The bass notes by definition are lower in frequency and are more easily absorbed by the material and walls in the concert hall than the high frequency notes of the guitar and the vocalist. Yeah, I learned that in Mechanical Vibrations, a subject that sounds vaguely vulgar to my ears.
So what does this all mean ? It means that if you play bass on stage, you can make mistakes, stop playing, jump around, and no one will notice. And to the naysayers; yeah, I have tried it.
So who’s my favorite bassist ?
It depends on what the criteria is.
For showmanship it has to be Billy Sheehan.
As far as impressive technique is concerned, look no further than John Myung.
BUT, if you are want to get into the bassist with the right ‘feel’ and an addictive groove to his playing and all that jazz, then it has to be Tony Levin hands down. When Levin plays, I can actually hear those fat bass strings singing.
Has to be the coolest article I read in some time!

I was playing around with the idea that online video may not really take off here. For one, it does not fall into the erratic online behavior – takes time and the final result is not always worth the wait. However trends were saying a different story.

Stumbled on this report about Top iphone downloads.
Top 10 Free Downloads (Overall).
1-Pandora Radio (music, 2 million iPhone subs who spend 90 minutes listening on average)
2-Facebook (social networking)
3-Tap Tap Revenge (game)
4-Shazam (music)
5-Labyrinth Lite Edition (game)
6-Remote (entertaining app)
7-Google Earth (only launched 2 months ago)
8-Lightsaber Unleashed (cool and fun app, close to a game for Dark Vador fans…)
9-AIM (highlights the strength of AIM in the US vs Europe)
10-Urbanspoon
Top Paid Apps (Overall):
1-Koi Pond
2-Texas Hold’em (game)
3-Moto Chaser (game)
4-Crash Bandicoot: Nitro Kart 3d (game)
5-Super Monkey Ball (game)
6-Cro-Mag Rally (game)
7-Enigmo (game)
8-Pocket Guitar
9-Recorder
10-iBeer
The keywords are free music, Facebook and such social networking activities and games (people are ready for pay for it too). Video does not really feature anywhere. Is it time to relook at the trends now?

Crazy Town – yeah that Butterfly song band.

Crazy Town - Butterfly band
I guess I have heard the best love lyrics from these guys here. Some snippets below-
Fierce nipple pierce you got me sprung with your tongue ring
and I ain’t gonna lie cause your loving gets me high
So to keep you by my side there’s nothing that I won’t try
Butterflies in her eyes and looks to kill
Time is passing I’m asking could this be real
Cause I can’t sleep I can’t hold still
The only thing I really know is she got sex appeal
When these times get rough I was lost Now I’m found
Ever since you’ve been around
You’re the women that I want
So yo, I’m putting it down.
I don’t deserve you unless it’s some kind of hidden message
to show me life is precious
Then I guess it’s true
But to tell truth, I really never knew
T’ll I met you… See I was lost and confused
Twisted and used up
Knew a better life existed but thought that I missed it
I see the sun breaking down into dark clouds
and a vision of you standing out in a crowd.
I used to think happy endings were only in the books I read but
you made me feel alive when I was almost dead
You filled that empty space with the love I used to chase
and as far as I can see it don’t get better than this
So butterfly, here is a song and it’s sealed with a kiss
and a thank you miss.
These lyrics have been a re-discovery of a crazy kind.

Ok! I confess! I do BUY my music.
Access to hard (or hardly) earned money had got me into the lost art of buying music for myself. Been an ardent collector of music since 2005. Could say that I have gathered up a decent collection of hard rock, metal and rock and roll music I been tripping on since college.
CD art and the whole collectors idea does give me a hard-on. Also, sound quality is a big factor. Listening in a full on mode is a different experience all together.
That’s one side of the story altogether.
There has been instances I have been bumping on the supposedly underground music scene. The whole scenario where the artists are just talented and amazingly broke. Good music lost out in the whole business mesh of the music industry. Either, the musicians are completely noobs in the finance and marketing aspect of the industry or without the moolah to make it big.
Thanks to internet, there are options where they could put up their music too. Yet, due to music piracy, it is just next to impossible to get a look where the metallicas and the linkin parks are out there to impress thier ever growing tweens and teens. What about the “Triplexities” and the “XL Ants”?
The hunger in me to get exposed to more experimental sounds and cooler ambiences cannot take me to a music store and face the clueless executives who could point me to some popular jazz and folk at the max. Plus market dynamics would stop these stores to waste precious inventory space on say a “Feveria” which is going to sell maybe 10 copies in 5 months. I would rather put some Led Zeppelins or maybe get a little adventerous and try some Foo Fighters.

Been exposed to www.jamendo.com for around 3 weeks now. One site full of hazzle free downloads of underground artists. I could make a few tracks and upload it. Upto social algorithms to get me further mileage to reach out to more public. Oh yes, the stars, popularity, comments and all that jazz. If you were wondering, lossless dowloads for the terrabyte geeks is around too.
Still, am I getting the pleasure of listening to it from a CD? Questionable!
