Mad trip on “If I were the prime minister”

April 3, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I was tripping on this BBC article. It says “If I were the Prime Minister…”

This article consists of a few interviews. People – different places, different backgrounds, different situations all constituting a major trip. It is ultra difficult to speak for anything other than what constitutes me – holy idea of selfishness. Do check that article.

Here are a few snapshots –

“Everywhere you go, officials ask you for bribes. I will work to weed out corruption.”

“If I become the prime minister, my first priority will be to ensure that all the farmers in this country get a fair price for their produce, whether it’s rice, wheat, sugarcane or some other crop.”

“Farmers make up more than half of our country, so it’s important to focus on their needs instead of only taking care of people who live in the cities.”

“I would want to solve all of our electricity problems. Even where I live we have long power cuts in the day of about six to seven hours.”

“As prime minister, I’d probably look at ways of separating religion from politics.”

“Educating people about health is important. If people can take care of themselves, our problems are reduced.”

“If I become the prime minister of India, I will make sure that all the poor people like me can have small permanent shops so that they can earn a living. Poor in this country have no peace, no hope.”

“monitor my ministers and other members and score them at the end of every week or month. This division would also educate the ministers on where they went wrong and where they could improve.”

“If I were to become the prime minister, I would give shops to all the poor. I will tell the police not to harass them.”

“I would also promote e-governance at all levels to introduce transparency so corruption is removed and the government comes closer the people.”

Mad trip. All the learned ones wants more education and the struggling ones need more shops. The healthcare geeks need more health and the farmers need more money. Its a crazy ass job – being a prime minister. I have decided I would think five times before taking up power.

For more trip do visit LordsOfOdds Election site . These guys have made something where you could design your own cabinet portfolio. Recommended.

thick stringed music narrative

January 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

First hand experience of Rock and Roll. This man is Vijeth who writes at his blog, Karbage!

I played bass in third year of engineering. It was fun, playing the bass has all the advantages of being in a band, without the hassles. Why ? because nobody in the audience cares about the bass, nobody. The bass notes by definition are lower in frequency and are more easily absorbed by the material and walls in the concert hall than the high frequency notes of the guitar and the vocalist. Yeah, I learned that in Mechanical Vibrations, a subject that sounds vaguely vulgar to my ears.

So what does this all mean ? It means that if you play bass on stage, you can make mistakes, stop playing, jump around, and no one will notice. And to the naysayers; yeah, I have tried it.

So who’s my favorite bassist ?

It depends on what the criteria is.

For showmanship it has to be Billy Sheehan.
As far as impressive technique is concerned, look no further than John Myung.
BUT, if you are want to get into the bassist with the right ‘feel’ and an addictive groove to his playing and all that jazz, then it has to be Tony Levin hands down. When Levin plays, I can actually hear those fat bass strings singing.

Has to be the coolest article I read in some time!

2009 – the trip is still on.

January 3, 2009 · Leave a Comment

started off my new year with some charcoal pastels I got from Niharika – a very sweet girl indeed.

I tripped my head out on charcoal. Got a weird sense of colors and ideas. Imitate the rainbow when in doubt! Also, it is not a bad idea to omit a few vowels out in the new year.

“Trnsfrm”
“Circkl”
“Bgn”

I guess you get the idea

year-ending

2009 might just become a materialistically simpler year in a long long time. I am feeling it. Feeling it

Utopian User Experience

December 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

“A Complete User Experience”

A clause so common that I barely these words now on the web. But complete user experience – hell not yet. Not even the “GOD of UX” has come up with the complete user experience yet.

1. Experience is for the five (may be six) senses.
2. Now we have conquered the sight and the hearing.
3. Smell, Taste, Feel and the “sixth sense” still pretty much remains to be dealt with.

Just like speakers, we could have “smellers” or “tasters” or whatever those things could be called with some sort of volume control. I am sure all the cookery sites would get the boost then.

Skill set dilemma

December 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I was in this dilemma right from my college days as to what exactly is my skill-set and how to project it to probable employers. Try the operations route or the marketing route. At times, I have even had a few bosses to help me out with this dilemma. Looked like this dilemma would last for some more time. Now, I kinda like this whole blogging thing.

On that note, do take a look at this neat comic from Ink Tank.

multi-talented-dude

Now the question is “do you have a skill set dilemma or are you just purely multi talented or are you what they call Jack of all trades?”

Is personal branding such a big issue anyways?

Death of Branding and Life of branders

December 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We shall never see a Nirma Dancing girl or a Close-up smile again. It seems no single brand has ever taken off on TV, Radio, Print or even online (for all you care) in the past decade like it has before.
close-up-smile
The late 90s ended the big brand making it big. Metallica is making a mistake by quoting being #1 with Death Magnetic. Reason – people don’t care anymore. Chris Anderson points out in The Long Tail that the last album that ever “reached the numbers” is by N’Sync. I refuse to do the Google exercise to get the exact name.

However, good brands are not dead yet. Good music will never die, as long as good human beings survive and we humans will always find ways to keep ourselves alive. :-o

Going Home!

April 8, 2008 · 2 Comments

Never been so excited about going home in my whole life. Quite a lot of mental abuse in the form of life, work and everything surrounded in this huge city needs to be thrown back. 8 months with a change in job, home, lifestyle, people, surroundings, rent and toilet shape can take a decent toll on any healthy mind. Feels like swimming in the deep end of the pool for a very long time that my feet and hands are tired. Just need to climb out; take a shower, clean off the chlorine, eat some food, breathe easy and have a smoke. I ll dive back next time with all the vigour. Now, Mom – please make me some food, make my bed and listen to my woes. Your son is back and he’s been waddling through shit. Need to wash my feet.
