On Twitter results appearing on Google Search

October 26, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Tweets would start appearing in your search results from now on – so says Google.

This certainly is a huge score for Google, considering the no-follow tag Twitter was holding so close to them. Or thinking about the greater good of caring to share the inside information, this could be for the social good.

Waiting to see who else removes the no-follow tag

On CIOs and Social Media Ban

October 9, 2009 · Leave a Comment

A lot of companies (read CIOs) ban the use of Social Media sites as a part of their Internet policy.

Few factors such as fear of negative reputation, employee productivity, wastage of time etc. forces such moves. Check out this study on social media behaviour in companies for deeper insight.

Good to know that almost 10% of the companies are open to Twitter, Facebook and YouTube usages inside firms. High time companies redefine their “cultures” of Freedom and Respect!

New kind of forms happening on the web

February 13, 2009 · Leave a Comment

new-kind-of-marketing1

I see a new kind of marketing where the landing page looks something like this. One form – two entries – your name and email and a video to go with it. Twitter is the main source of marketing here. Catch those social media types with a huge huge following and then broadcast this link to people with a relevant 90 character message which usually goes “Blah Blah” – awesome video. go watch!

Word of Mouth usually happens with retweets or maybe even a few emails to follow up on that deal. Personally, I think this is sweet. I am slowly removing my hatred for online videos too! Just fire me with quality stuff. I ll come with you!

Pune Tweet up (#ptu) – what happens

February 8, 2009 · 1 Comment

Attended a tweet meetup at Pune. Good to know some junta in a new city. Apart from that jazz, one birdie on twitter shared a whole bunch of comic strips that happened on twitter.

I have never had a thing for meetups in the first place due to a very low Signal to Noise ratio. Still some good tips received this time on Pune Tweet Up (#ptu).

1. There is a CIO for Pune. The first of its type in the country. That is a pretty neat idea I think. Tweetaholics in Pune could actually do some hashtag magic to update a lot of content for the CIO. Connecting this dope to the right person and makinf the right person act on it could make the world (atleast the city) a better place.

2. There are groups on tweetdeck. Makes the haystack a much smaller place. Probability of spotting the needle goes up by a good deal. You could go to notifications on tweetdeck and turn off “Play Notifications” – less distraction. Just like how ads become invisible on web, you could develop invisibility on the Tweet notifications and later at a convenient time go read up on who had Poha for breakfast. Neat!

3. There is a French Entrepreneur in Pune who tweets!

Picture which speaks a thousand words on the deal below. (@YannLeGouic nothing personal man)

4. Twitter is not really a minus 30 male only phenomenon. Try Pune junta for that. I am proud of this city for this particular deal. People are even thinking of soul mates on Twitter here. Geeky male goes FULL POWER!

Twitter is deleting spam profiles – Killer move

December 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Just heard that Twitter is deleting spam profiles.

This is THE best move any social networking site can do. It reduces to free up a lot of valuable server space and also correct some wrong “number theories” and increasing follower population. It is unfortunate people consider the number of followers to be some sort of currency and do crazy techniques to increase them rather than sticking to relevant meaningful tweets.

Lets see what comes next!

On noise on the web

December 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

software-development

Messages like these would have sounded a lot more credible say fifteen years ago. Many might also think “duh” by seeing such things on Twitter.

1. The confidence of seeing the stuff you say in the same platform as experts and gurus is a major kick.
2. It serves to add more to your web brand – well quantity of your messages sure is a currency in making the “Brand 2.0″ – which is the brand “you” and blah blah

It adds to the noise and pushes down the quality of information on the web. This may not be as big a problem as poverty or Global warming / cooling / climate change; still it is a big problem.
